Zahan Kapoor, who garnered praise and appreciation for his performance in Netflix’s Black Warrant, shared why he kept away from the “show-sha” of the Kapoor family and how for him legendary grandfather Shashi Kapoor was just his dadaji and not one of the biggest stars of the country.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Zahan spoke about his legendary grandfather and said “He was just my dadaji. When I would come home from school, he would be there while my dad was at work. He would be busy watching shows and cricket. He was a fixture at the dinner table, and we would always have dinner together. My memories of him are only related to family things. I realised what a big star he was much later in life, and I consider that a blessing.”
“One day, I remember coming home and seeing Amitabh Bachchan sitting and talking to dadaji. It was during the 90s. I was in shock. But he just asked me to do namaste and go. We were never forced to watch his old films. The conversations were very contemporary and never about the past,” he added.
Zahan stayed away from Kapoor’s family public image like his grandfather Shashi Kapoor. “I wasn’t part of the ‘show-sha’ of it all, and I’m happy because it has helped me learn a lot about our country and the world in an organic way.” The actor admitted that he enjoys traveling by buses, trains, and flights without being recognised. “Fame can be a burden too, but of course, it comes with a new responsibility,” recalled Zahan.
“My dadaji made a conscious choice to separate himself from the spotlight. He valued his privacy. As a nuclear family, we also value our privacy,” added the Faraaz actor.
