Kerala University Syndicate decides to reappoint the Registrar

Spread the News

Kerala University decided to reappoint K.S. Anilkumar as the Registrar during a Syndicate meeting held on Saturday (February 22).

The decision effectively nullifies an earlier move by Vice-Chancellor in-charge Mohanan Kunnummal to initiate the appointment process for the post. The reappointment was supported by 20 members, including the sole Congress-backed member, while it was opposed by the two BJP members.

The Syndicate meeting, convened following a Kerala High Court order, was held the same day the Registrar’s tenure was about to expire.

The meeting was held nearly two months since the previous one. The Vice-Chancellor had also postponed a meeting called on January 27 on account of a protest by Students Federation of India at the university headquarters against the refusal to permit the university union to assume office, despite the completion of union elections. The police bolstered security at the campus in view of the Syndicate meeting.

During the meeting, the LDF members reiterated their demand to reappoint Dr. Anilkumar, despite calls to initiate a fresh appointment. The BJP members insisted the reappointment should be in accordance with the university norms.
