The Government of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday gave administrative sanction for implementing PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana for 20 lakh SC & ST domestic consumers in alignment with the Jagjeevan Jyothi Yojana Scheme, wherein free electricity would be supplied to them, and laid down the operational guidelines for it.

It was mentioned in G.O. Rt. No.16 issued by Special Chief Secretary (Energy- FAC) K. Vijayanand that the Government of India had launched the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana with the aim of solarizing one crore households by providing free electricity up to 300 units every month through the installation of Roof Top Solar (RTS) systems of up to 3kwp (based on their average monthly consumption/connected load).

The generated solar power can be utilised by the targeted domestic consumers for energy needs and the surplus power, if any, can be fed to the grid on net metering / gross metering / net billing basis, as approved by the A.P. Electricity Regulatory Commission.

The Jagjeevan Jyothi Yojana Scheme is aimed at supplying up to 200 units of electricity per month free of cost to around 20 lakh SC & ST domestic consumers, thereby alleviating their financial burden of monthly electricity charges.

The State government instructed the DISCOMS to go ahead with a utility-led aggregation model of power supply for 20 lakh SC / ST LT consumers as per RESCO/ULA guidelines issued by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy for implementing the RTS scheme by tapping the funds from the Government of India.
