The Kerala Muslim Jamaat has warned the people to remain vigilant against the calculated efforts of communal forces to destroy social harmony by raising claims on places of worship which are centuries old.
The State cabinet of the Muslim Jamaat stated on Tuesday (December 3) that claims by extremists regarding the eight-century-old Shamsi Shahi Masjid in Badaun district, the five-century-old Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal district, both in Uttar Pradesh, and the eight-century-old Ajmer Sharif Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Rajasthan were meant to destroy the country. It described the court orders permitting surveys in the sites of the monuments as unfortunate.
The Jamaat urged those committed to the country’s secular democracy to oppose efforts against the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act of 1991.
The Jamaat exhorted people to recognise the attempts of communal forces to cling to power by inciting tensions. “The judiciary must show mercy and compassion to minorities and oppressed groups in the country,” the cabinet said.
Kerala Muslim Jamaat vice-president Marayamangalam Abdurahman Faizy presided over the cabinet meeting. Scholars C. Muhammed Faizy, Perodu Abdurahman Saqafi, Wandoor Abdurahman Faizy, and Maliyekkal Sulaiman Saqafi spoke.
