Several farmers from Komarada mandal on Sunday (March 2) alleged that land, which had been transferred to a Tamil Nadu based company decades ago for raising a mango plantation and a mango processing unit in Pujariguda, Marriguda, Tulasivalasa, Cheedipalli and a few other villages in the mandal, was being grabbed by a few people.
They said farmers in the region had handed over around 310 acres to the company, which promised to offer livelihood opportunities to the locals through a mango processing unit.
Pujariguda resident Nali Gumpa Swamy said he had petitioned Parvatipuram-Manyam district administration, requesting it to protect the land, which, he alleged, was being grabbed by influential persons with the help of local revenue employees. He said the company, too, was requested to take necessary steps to protect the land.
D. Balaram, another farmer, said they had sought details of the current ownership status of the land through a Right to Information Act application but did not get a satisfactory reply.
He said all the farmers would soon submit a petition to District Collector A. Shyam Prasad, seeking his intervention.
