A day after arresting two individuals for smuggling explosives, the police on Sunday discovered a massive stockpile of explosives at a godown in Erattupetta.
According to officials, the seized materials included electric and non-electric detonators along with gelatin sticks. The cache was found during an inspection at a godown in Nadakkal, Erattupetta, which had been rented by Shibili, who was arrested in Kattappana the previous day while attempting to smuggle explosives.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosives were brought in from Karnataka for distribution to illegal stone quarries operating in Idukki and Kottayam districts. Based on Shibili’s statement, the police also arrested Muhammad Fazil of Theekoyi in connection with the case. A detailed probe is on.
