The High Court has extended its stay on the government giving integrity certificate to police superintendent M.J. Sojan as part of bestowing IPS on him. The court move has come in the wake of an appeal by the mother of two minor girls of Walayar who had been found dead in mysterious circumstances in their house on different dates in 2017.
The victims’ mother, backed by an action forum seeking justice for the girls, has been opposing the government move to confer IPS on Mr. Sojan. He was the officer who first investigated the case when the sisters, aged 13 and nine, were found hanging from a rafter in their house on January 13 and March 4 respectively.
The trial court had set free all the accused for want of substantial evidence, triggering an outcry that made the High Court order a reinvestigation by the CBI. The court rejected the CBI’s first chargesheet and ordered a fresh investigation by another CBI team.
The victim’s mother is opposing IPS for Mr. Sojan alleging that he had made insulting remarks against the children.
