A colourful festival of Hindus, Holi, was celebrated in Yadgir district on Friday. People, especially youths, enjoyed splashing different varieties of colours on each other and exchanged greetings during the celebrations.

Traders sold pichkaris at a fair price. Youths splashed liquid colours on each other using pichkaris and also dry colour powders.

Holi is celebrated with colours to mark the arrival of spring, to celebrate the triumph of good over evil and to enjoy the bounties of nature.

The colours used in Holi also symbolise various aspects of life and the the divine.

Following the traditional practice, in many areas, people set fire to Kamadeva in effigies at night, before the day of Holi arrived.

A majority of shops, except essentials like medical stores, milk shops and newspaper shops, remained closed to celebrate Holi.

A scorching Sun did not make any difference to people celebrating the occasion.
