The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has suspended its Deputy General Manager (DGM) (Sales) Alex Mathew who was reportedly booked by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau in an alleged bribery case on Saturday (March 15, 2025). “Strict disciplinary action will be initiated as per rules, and the IOC is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency in its operations,” a statement from the company said.
Mr. Mathew was taken into custody on a petition reportedly filed by a gas agency owner at Kadakkal in Kollam. It was alleged that the DGM had demanded ₹10 lakh to avoid transferring customers of the petitioner’s gas agency to other agencies. The petitioner was identified as Manoj, a native of Kowdiar, Thiruvananthapuram.
As per preliminary reports, the Vigilance team arrested Mr. Mathew when he arrived at the petitioner’s house to collect ₹2 lakh. The team seized another ₹1 lakh in cash from his vehicle. Soon after his arrest, the Vigilance team also conducted a raid at Mr. Mathew’s house at Kadavanthra in Kochi, according to sources.
