Hours after Ukraine declared that it was ready to accept an immediate 30-day ceasefire in the war with Russia, Moscow launched an air attack on Kyiv.
Citing the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation, Russian state-owned news agency RIA reported that air raid alerts had been issued in Kyiv ten regions.
RIA also reported that strikes were carried out on the city of Kharkiv in northeast Ukraine.
Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said that air defences were engaged in repelling the strikes, according to

Just hours before the announcement of the ceasefire agreement, Ukraine had launched its biggest drone attack on Russia since the war began. Russia reportedly shot down over 300 such unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday (March 11)
agreed to the 30-day ceasefire proposal after high-octane talks in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Outside the White House following the talks, Trump told reporters, “That’s a total ceasefire[…]Ukraine has agreed to it. And hopefully Russia will agree to it.”
Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy, is anticipated to travel to Moscow in the coming days to propose a ceasefire to Putin.
It remains uncertain whether Putin is willing to accept the ceasefire in its current form. Trump has stated that he expects to speak with Putin later this week, and Russian media reports suggest that their conversation may occur on Friday (March 14).
The US also announced that it was lifting the suspension of military aid and intelligence sharing imposed on Ukraine.
The agreement regarding the ceasefire was reached nearly two weeks after a
heated exchange in the Oval Office between Trump and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, which resulted in the White House suspending aid to Ukraine despite the disapproval of its European allies.
