Raichur: A court sentenced Ramesh Mariyappa from Umaluti village in Sindhanur taluk to 10-year rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 15,000 for sexually assaulting a minor girl.
The incident occurred in April 2018 in Sindhanur City police station’s jurisdiction. Following the girl’s father’s complaint, circle inspector CPI Nagaraj M Kammar submitted a charge sheet against the perpetrator.
Judge BB Jakati of the 3rd additional district and sessions Pocso court in Sindhanur delivered the judgement after reviewing the evidence. The court also sentenced the accused’s father, Mudiappa, to two years of simple imprisonment with a Rs 5,000 fine for being an accomplice. Additionally, the court directed a compensation of Rs 4,50,000 to be paid to the girl from the Victims’ Compensation Fund.
