The Finance Officer of Kuvempu University, on Tuesday, submitted a deficit budget for the year 2025-26 of the university, stating that the establishment was facing financial constraints.
H.N. Ramesh, Finance Officer, in his submission before the academic council, said that the university would have a shortage of ₹37.26 crore to meet the expenses in the coming year. He estimated the total receipts at ₹133.84 crore and proposed the expenditures to the tune of ₹171.10 crore.

In his preliminary remarks, the officer said that the university had been facing financial difficulties. “We are trying to continue with the academic and research activities despite the decline in revenue. It has been decided to seek additional funds from the State government, bring down administrative expenses and also cut down additional posts,” he said.
Further, he said without taking any new work this year, attention would be given to complete the ongoing works.
Of the expenses, he proposed ₹110 crore towards salary and allowances that includes pension and contributions towards the new pension scheme.
As much as ₹17.84 crore has been earmarked for academic expenses and another ₹15.50 crore towards administrative expenses. The services meant to support students would incur ₹4.9 crore and examination expenses would be ₹17 crore. The expenses of the distance education directorate and development works would be ₹1 crore each. Besides that, the expenditure for general development would be ₹3.23 crore.
Vice-Chancellor Sharath Ananthamurthy, Registrar A.L. Manjunath, Registrar (Evaluation) S.M. Gopinath, deans and members of the academic council were present at the meeting.
