The three-day Krishi Mela kicked off at the University of Agriculture Sciences (UAS) in Raichur on Saturday.
Shivakumar Swami of Kappatagudda Nandiveri Samsthan mutt in Mundaragi in Gadag district inaugurated the Mela organised by the UAS, Agriculture, and related departments.
“Agriculture was an ancient and prime profession for lakhs of farmers in India. But, after years passing, many of this generation are not showing interest in agriculture owing to different reasons, including climate change, which has impacted the agriculture sector adversely,” he said, and added that switching to sustainable agriculture can help the farmers face challenges.
He said, “Agriculture is facing another problem from extensive usage of chemicals and fertilisers. As a result, products are becoming poisonous, and soil is going to die gradually as there are no proper initiatives to protect it. Therefore, the farmers should use dung on the land and also plant more trees to create a favourable climate,” he said.
