The Kodagu police have seized Ambergris, also called whale vomit, estimated to be valued at around ₹10 crore, on Thursday.
The police confiscated 10.39 kg of Ambergris near Betoli village in the Virajpet police station limits. Ten people were arrested for allegedly being involved in the illegal trade.
The police said the Ambergris was being illegally transported from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. Acting on a tip-off, a police team was constituted. The team intercepted the vehicles carrying the Ambergris and seized the smuggled item.
Two cars bearing Kerala vehicle registration numbers and two currency note counting machines were also seized. The Virajper police have registered a case.
