Andhra Pradesh is likely to witness a warmer winter this season, as the minimum temperatures during December 2024 to February 2025 are going to be above normal, according to the information from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
As per the seasonal outlook released by the IMD for the country recently, the State falls in the category of having 50-75 percent probability of recording above-normal minimum temperatures during the three months, while the maximum temperatures will be normal to above normal from December 2024 to February 2025.
Scientists at the IMD in Amaravati said that since the outlook is based on probabilities, it is difficult to arrive at the numbers regarding the degree of deviation from the normal minimum and maximum temperatures.
IMD Amaravati Director S. Stella said that the maximum and minimum temperatures vary from place to place within the State. On December 8, the minimum temperatures recorded at various stations are as follows: Jangamaheswarapuram in Palnadu district recorded a minimum temperature of 24 degree Celsius on Sunday, a deviation from the normal by 6 degree Celsius, as the normal is 17.4 degree Celsius. All other stations in the State also recorded above-normal minimum temperatures on Sunday, with the deviations ranging from the lowest of 1.7 degree Celsius in Tirupati to the highest of 6.6 degree Celsius.
Meanwhile, the day’s maximum temperatures, though above normal, did not see a major deviation, as the degree of deviation at most of the stations was below 2 degree Celsius.
The data from the seasonal outlook shows that December is likely to see a warmer winter since the probability of having above-normal minimum temperature is very high. The IMD also predicted that the monthly rainfall for December over south peninsular India, comprising of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikkal, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema, Kerala and Mahe and south interior Karnataka, is most likely to be above normal.
