Tiruchi city police to step up surveillance near Chathiram bus stand with more cameras

The Tiruchi City Police is installing additional cameras near the busy Chathiram bus stand in the city to cover more areas for round-the-clock monitoring.

A police booth is being established near the Kamaraj statue close to the Chathiram bus stand which would be equipped with a public address system for regulation of vehicular movements. About 12 surveillance cameras are to be installed additionally at vantage points to cover the Karur bypass which is abuzz all through the day. 

The cameras are to be installed additionally from the crime prevention and traffic regulation point of view, said police sources. The Chathiram bus stand and its vicinity are under round-the-clock monitoring through a string of surveillance cameras installed at key points since the area witnesses heavy public and vehicular movements.

In addition to city buses, those plying to different towns in Tiruchi district and other districts start from the Chathiram bus stand which is surrounded by business and commercial establishments.

The need to bring more areas near the Chathiram bus stand such as the Karur bypass under the scope of surveillance cameras-based monitoring was felt in view of the sharp rise in the traffic volume and reports of accidents taking place at those places, said the sources. Further, cameras would aid investigators in establishing the identity of accused involved in crimes committed at those places.

The work on installation of a police booth near the Kamaraj statue and additional surveillance cameras were under way, the sources said and added that they were expected to be completed soon.
