Contract Assistant Professors in public universities across the State continued their indefinite strike on the seventh day on Friday, forming a human chain and walking in a march.

Demanding regularisation of their services and opposing the GO 21 recruitment guidelines, a large number of contract faculty members, gathered at Osmania University. In a protest, they proceeded to the nearby temple of Yellamma Thalli and submitted their petition and prayed that no officials have been cooperative in their struggle.

They said that their demand for regularisation of their services, enhanced benefits of dearness allowance, house rent allowance, and job security are just demands after putting several years of service.

The protesting faculty demanded answers as to why the government was not recognising their educational credentials, teaching service and not implementing favourable conditions to them.

Among those present in the protest were contract faculty Dharmateja, Parasuram, Kumar, Upender, Vijayinder Reddy, Tallapalli Venkateswarlu, Vinitha Pandey, Sailaja Reddy, Naseema Begum, Pandayya, Ravikumar and Srinivas Ambati.

Assistant Professors at Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda, part of the contract Assistant Professors State coordination committee, also in their indefinite strike demanded regularisation of their services and the implementation of the University Grants Commission pay scale with job security.

They said academic activities at MGU have been disrupted and demanded the government for an early resolution by engaging in a constructive dialogue.

Among the protesters were Chintha. Syam Sunder, Swapna, Ravender Reddy, Jyothi, Ramesh and Ramchendru.
