Acclaimed filmmaker Kanu Behl, celebrated for his bold and unflinching storytelling, shared his thoughts post the screening of his upcoming film, Despatch starring Manoj Bajpayee, Shahana Goswami and Arrchita Agarwaal at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The director admitted to feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness, before the screening of Despatch at IFFI.
Speaking about the emotional depth and thematic intensity of Despatch, Kanu Behl explained how the film explores the dark underbelly of crime and the human psyche, presenting an unvarnished reflection of society. While he took pride in the authenticity of the narrative, he acknowledged the potential for polarizing reactions.
“I was genuinely nervous,” Kanu Behl revealed. “ Despatch is an extremely special and personally significant project for me. It’s an unfiltered and unflinching reflection of the world I see around me — its flaws, its cracks, and the raw truths that often go unnoticed. I was curious to see how it strikes a chord with people who are willing to embrace its intensity”.
Despite his apprehension, Behl expressed gratitude for the opportunity to showcase Despatch at IFFI, where he hoped the audience would resonate with the film’s deeper themes. “At its core, Despatch is a story about navigating chaos, both within and outside of us. There’s no sugar-coating here, and that kind of honesty can be unsettling. But that’s what makes cinema powerful: it forces you to confront, to feel, and to think.” he added.
The film’s screening at IFFI marked a milestone for Kanu Behl, who continues to push the boundaries of storytelling and spark meaningful conversations through his work.
Despatch will premiere on 13th December only on ZEE5!
