Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna laid the foundation stone for a new railway line between Sindhanur and Raichur in Sindhanur on Thursday. This line is being taken up under the Munirabad (Ginigera)-Raichur new railway line project.

While addressing the gathering, he said that the cost of the new line between Munirabad and Raichur (165 km) is ₹3,402 crore and the line from Sindhanur to Raichur (81 km) is ₹1,205 crore. The 81-km project will be completed by March 2027, he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sanctioned ₹44,000 crore for railway projects in Karnataka. Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw is aiming to complete the proposed railway projects in the next three years. The 81-km stretch between Sindhanur and Raichur has 17 railway stations, he said.

Economic adviser to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and MLA Basavaraj Rayaraddi said that railway projects will come only through efforts and political interest. The new line between Sindhanur and Raichur will definitely boost development.

MLA Hampanagouda Badarli urged the Minister to sanction a railway point to be established in Sindhanur enabling people to get fertilisers on time.
