Singer Abhijeet Sawant became an overnight sensation after he won the first season of the reality show Indian Idol. He got fast-tracked into a life of fame and fortune, as he sang for many Bollywood movies. People from the industry usually hitch their wagon to someone who has a similar work profile, but Sawant had already met his wife, Shilpa, when he was just 18 years old. However, Abhijeet revealed that he had made a profile on Tinder and that his wife had no idea about it.
While appearing on the Hindi Rush podcast, Abhijeet was asked about a previous article which talked about him having a Tinder profile and whether it was fake. He said, “No, that was my own profile. I don’t use it anymore, but I was curious about how it worked. I was in the US, and a friend told me about Tinder when it first came out here in India, and I made a profile, and I used to open it from time to time to just check how it works. Although my wife didn’t know about this, even now I think she is unaware of it, but I had that profile for quite some while.”
The singer listed his reasons for staying on Tinder, and said that it is a great place to meet new people and talk to them. “I got a lot of matches, and I even talked to people I met on the app. I like talking, and you can have very deep conversations with women, which aren’t possible with men. I found 2-3 people on the app, and we used to talk a lot. But then I had to delete the account, because someone posted about it on Twitter.”
He added that it doesn’t matter if anyone knows about the profile or not. He also claimed that he isn’t the sort of person who hides things about himself. The singer explained in the same interview that, over time, his fame faded away and people stopped treating him with the same respect as they did before.
