Srinivasalu, Principal Secretary, Department of Ecology and Environment, Karnataka, inaugurated the 17th Foundation Day celebrations of the University of Agriculture Sciences (UAS) Raichur on Saturday.

Dr. Srinivasalu reserved most of his time during the speech to motivate students and said that students should adopt discipline and continue with dedication to beat challenges and difficult situations to achieve in the field chosen. “The challenges that you face may bring changes. You must use such changes to reach your goal successfully,” he added.

He reiterated that agriculture will exist until human settlements exist. “Your people are the luckiest to come here to get a degree in agriculture. The agriculture sector wants knowledge and research done by you in agriculture and agritechnology. Therefore, everyone should extend service to the farmers and the agriculture sector in making agriculture profitable and become a role model for others,” he advised.

M. Hanumanthappa, Vice-Chancellor of the UAS, who presided over the programme, said that many of the degree holders and postgraduates from UAS are serving in various organisations and the government sector and also abroad.

The UAS has so far released 55 new varieties and 500 technologies for the welfare of farmers. It is a matter of pride that an e-SAP invention has spread across the state and outside as well, and also four technologies that were successfully patented.

Member of the UAS’s administrative committee, Mallikarjun, has suggested that the research on the insertion of technology by the farmers should be conducted to ensure prompt reach, as presently just 20% of them are reaching.

A gold medal and the “2025 – Krishi Ratna” award were given away to Shivakumar Patil, a native of Gudihal village in Maski taluk, for his remarkable achievements in the agriculture and non-agriculture sectors.

Various awards, such as excellent teacher, research scientist, extension scientist, field superintendent, service staff, field assistant and excellent agriculture labour, were given away to the eligible.

Officers, teachers, non-teaching staff, agricultural labourers, students and others were present.
