S. Sudevan re-elected CPI(M) Kollam district secretary

M.V. Govindan, State secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), inaugurating a public meeting in connection with the conclusion of the party’s district conference at Kottiyam in Kollam on Thursday.

S. Sudevan has been re-elected Kollam district secretary for a third term in the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] district conference that concluded here on Thursday.

A member of the CPI(M) State committee since 2015, he had taken over from K.N. Balagopal as the district secretary in 2018. Active in politics since 1970, Mr. Sudevan was the first district secretary of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) in Kollam district after its formation. Subsequently, he served as the State treasurer and central committee member. He has served as the district secretary of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), State secretary of the CITU, and working president of the Kollam District Plantation Union.

A two-time district panchayat member, he was also the vice-president of the district panchayat and chairman of the Kerala State Cashew Workers Apex Industrial Cooperative Society (Capex).

Five women

The conference elected a 44-member district committee with four new comers, including Shyam Mohan, S. Geethakumari, V. Suma Lal and Adarsh M. Saji. At present the committee has five women, including Prasanna Earnest, Sabitha Begum, Suja Chandrababu, S. Geethakumari and V. Suma Lal.

The Kollam district conference has passed resolutions demanding commencement of import and export at the Kollam port and effective measures to prevent human-wildlife conflict that has caused significant damage to crops in the eastern region of the district. Comprehensive plans for the overall development of the eastern region of the district, transforming Kollam into a tourism hub and thereby increasing employment opportunities, and implementing the Chadayamangalam-Kottukkal sports hub were among the other resolutions presented.
