A bison was fatally injured after being hit by a car near Vandanpathal on the Mundakkayam-Kuzhimavu road in Kottayam. The car, carrying Sabarimala pilgrims from Tamil Nadu, collided with the animal around 1 p.m.
The driver, Manikandan, a resident of Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, sustained minor injuries as the vehicle overturned due to the impact. Forest officials rushed to the scene and attempted to save the bison by administering first aid, but the animal succumbed to its injuries.
The bison’s carcass will be buried in the forest after a post-mortem examination, officials said.
