BJP MP Jagadish Shettar has slammed All India Congress Committee president Malikarjun Kharge for his comments questioning whether Hindus taking a dip in the Ganga will eradicate poverty.

Mr. Shettar asked whether Mr. Kharge will dare to make similar remarks about Muslims going on Haj and Christians visiting Italy to meet the Pope.

Mr. Kharge’s statement, Can taking a holy dip in the Ganga will eliminate poverty, only reflects his culture. Such statement is made to hurt the sentiments of millions of Hindus and to appease Muslims, Mr. Shettar said, speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday.

“The Congress leaders continuously attack the faith practices of the Hindus, while they choose to remain silent on uttering about the religious practices of Muslims, as they fear losing their existence. We condemn such statement that insult Hindu society. One must stop speaking sarcastically in a manner that hurts Hindu sentiments,” Mr. Shettar said.

‘Congress scared of CBI’

Mr. Shettar said that the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment scam is a bigger one with the alleged involvement of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He said that the Congress leaders are trying to suppress the MUDA scam by ordering a probe by a State agency as they are scared of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Mr. Shettar also recalled that the Lokayukta was scrapped by Mr. Siddaramaiah during his first tenure in office when he constituted the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). Later, the High Court of Karnataka abolished the ACB and restored the Lokayukta.

Replying to a question, Mr. Shettar said that the BJP central leadership is aware of the internal strife in the party’s State unit. He exuded the confidence that the BJP central leadership will set everything right. Such conflicts are obvious in all political parties, he added.
