Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed the officials of the Tourism Department to come up with a comprehensive tourism policy for the State by February 10.
The officials were directed to study the best policies available within the country and abroad in finalising the policy. Once announced, the policy should ensure that there is significant rise in tourists which in turn leads to revenue generation to the State besides attracting domestic as well as international tourists to the State.
The focus of the new policy, he said, should be on promoting temple tourism and ecotourism which had high potential to draw prospective tourists to the State. The Chief Minister gave the directions during a meeting with senior officials to review the progress in tourism sector.
He wanted Revenue, Forest and Tourism departments to join hands in designing plans for attracting tourists during the Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara. In addition, steps should be taken to develop a tourist circuit covering the adjoining tourist places, temples and other attractions relating to the tribal festival.
Mr. Revanth Reddy favoured plans for giving a fillip to ecotourism in Adilabad, Warangal and Nagarjunasagar areas. Officials concerned were asked to examine the ecotourism models adopted by Singapore in this direction. The Chief Minister was particular that officials plan programmes in advance to attract maximum number of tourists to the State during the ensuing Krishna and Godavari Pushkarams. He wanted the officials to explore the possibilities of developing a tourist circuit within the city connecting Sanjeevaiah Park, NTR Park and Indira Park, all within the purview of the Hussainsagar.
