The Kalaburagi Police have registered a case against four people, a minor girl’s father, her mother, teacher of a government higher primary school and the bridegroom, in connection with a case of child marriage.
The police said that the parents performed the wedding of their 15-year-old minor daughter with Syed Ahmadraj, a resident of Hagaraga Cross in the city.
The accused parents, Shaikh Ismail and Irfana Begum, native of Polakpalli village in Chincholi taluk, shifted to Kalaburagi city for the treatment of their 15-year-old ailing daughter and were staying at the accused Ahmadraj’s residence.
In due course, the parents fixed their daughter’s wedding with Ahmadraj and performed the wedding ceremony at his house without informing any relatives. The government schoolteacher, Akram Pasha, officiated the wedding according to the Islamic faith.
Based on a complaint lodged through Childline on 1098, the Kalaburagi women’s police station conducted an inquiry, recovered video evidence of the wedding ceremony and booked them under Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and various other laws.
