Mentioning that there are around 14,000 guest lecturers hired by the department, Higher Education Minister M.C. Sudhakar has said that the government has begun the process of filling vacancies in a phased manner.
Addressing presspersons at Gotagodi in Haveri district after the convocation of the Folklore University, the Minister clarified that no sufficient evidence has been found with regard to the alleged irregularities in the recruitment at the Folklore University.
“Ever since I took charge, I have received numerous complaints about the alleged irregularities. However, detailed scrutiny has revealed that there is insufficient evidence to back the complaints,” he said.
To a query, he said that he will examine the new proposal on additional recruitment in the university.
Replying to another query, Mr. Sudhakar said that the hasty manner in which the previous government established universities has resulted in fiscal challenges and reputed universities in the State are facing funds crunch because of ill-planned moves.
The Minister said that in the wake of demand for additional funds from universities, the matter has been placed before the Chief Minister for perusal. The issue has also been brought to the notice of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar who heads the Sub-Committee on assessment and development of universities, he said.
Protocol
Mentioning that he is not aware of the ruckus created by MLA Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan and his followers at the Folklore University Vice-Chancellor’s office on Monday, he said that the elected MLA might not be aware of the convocation protocol.
As per protocol, only the Governor, ministerial representatives and syndicate members can be invited on the dais, a rule applicable to all universities, he said and added that he will take up the issue with the legislator.
