The characters of Snow White, the seven dwarfs & Evil Queen have been part of our nostalgia days as this classic shows the common yet powerful concept of the win of good over evil. Marc Webb known for directing films like The Amazing Spiderman franchise, Gifted and others has promised to take us on a musical journey with Snow White, which is a reimagining of Walt Disney’s 1937 animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. But does he succeed in making it one of the most memorable films? Let’s find out…
The King & Queen of a beautiful kingdom (played by Hadley Fraser and Lorena Andrea) are kind and good-hearted but are childless. However, their wish gets manifested and they are blessed with a baby girl during the snowy season. The couple names the princess Snow White, who is a kind-hearted, brave and good soul. However, the Queen dies and soon King marries the Evil Queen, who creates an illusion that she is a good person.
The King goes out to war but never returns and here Evil Queen (Gal Gadot) takes over the Kingdom and rules it to fulfil her greed while Snow White is now a servant of her own Kingdom and Castle.
Evil Queen, who is obsessed with being the fairest one of all, always asks this question to the magic mirror, who in reply takes her name. But as the years pass and Snow White turns into an adult (Rachel Zegler), the magic mirror starts taking her name. Angry and jealous Evil Queen tells her huntsman to take Snow White into the woods, kill her and bring her heart to her in the castle.
However, the huntsman doesn’t’ kill Snow White because of her good nature and tells her to run deep in the woods. As she runs deep, the princess enters the magical forest, where she meets the 7 dwarfs Doc, Bashful, Dopey, Happy, Grumpy, Sneezy and Sleepy.
Here Snow White understands the real intentions of the Evil Queen and now gears up to conquer her own Kingdom and restore it like before. Will she succeed?
Marc Webb has made engaging and engrossing movies in the past but unfortunately, Snow White has turned out to be the weakest one. Despite being visually enchanting, the lack of depth in the narrative and exhausting screenplay, Snow White fails to make a mark as a cinematic experience.
Talking about the performances, none of the actors made a mark including Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler. The only good part of the film was its short runtime of 108 minutes.
On the whole, Snow White is far from a good film and can only be watched if you or your kids are fans of fairy tales.
