Aamir Khan’s directorial debut Taare Zameen Par is considered to be one of the finest Bollywood films of recent times. However, Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograg Singh, the ex-cricketer turned actor slammed the megastar directorial and called it ‘wahiyat’.

Apart from Aamir Khan, the film also featured Darsheel Safary, Tanay Chheda, Vipin Sharma and Tisca Chopra in prominent roles.

At the 55th National Film Awards, Taare Zameen Par won 3 awards: Best Film on Family Welfare, Best Lyrics (Prasoon Joshi for “Maa”) and Best Male Playback Singer (Shankar Mahadevan for “Maa”). At the 53rd Filmfare Awards, it received 11 nominations, including Best Actor (Safary), Best Supporting Actor (Aamir Khan) and Best Supporting Actress (Chopra), and won a leading 5 awards, including Best Film, Best Director (Aamir Khan) and Best Lyricist (Joshi for “Maa”).

It was also India’s official entry at the 81st Academy Awards for Best Foreign Film but was not nominated.

Taare Zameen Par, which emerged as a box office success clashed with Welcome at the box office, which featured Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Feroze Khan, Nana Patekar, Paresh Rawal, Anil Kapoor among others.

For the unversed, Yograj Singh featured in movies like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Singh Is Bling and others.
