In Bollywood, many female actors have called out ageism, which has affected their professional careers and the latest one to join them is Sonakshi Sinha.

While talking to Zoom, when questioned whether there is pressure on female actors to look a certain way, she answered, “Absolutely. It’s very evident that the same kind of pressure or expectations do not come from a man. They are not age shamed when they are romancing women who are 30 years younger than them. They are not shamed for having bellies, less hair or anything of that sort. It’s very obvious that the women have to take the brunt of it all. I have had to deal with actors who are older than me, who said ‘oh she looks older than us’.”

Taapsee Pannu, who was accompanying Sonakshi, agreed with actress and said, “I second her. And actors who are at least 10 years older than us, we are ‘old’ to be casted opposite them now.”

“I just want to thank them. I don’t want to work with a person like you. Anyway, it’s very evident. And it’s always a woman who is struggling to move past that and push those barriers down, and pave her way in something that should be something as smooth as it is for the man. We are all artists, at the end of the day. We are in the art of cinema. For women, it shouldn’t be that much for a struggle,” Sonakshi shared.

Sonakshi Sinha, who made her Bollywood debut with Salman Khan starrer Dabangg, featured in hits like Rowdy Rathore, Son of Sardaar, Holiday, Mission Mangal and others.

This year, she starred in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi, which streamed on Netflix and
Kakuda alongside Riteish Deshmukh and Saquib Saleem, which released on Zee5.
