Netflix’s Adolescence has turned out to be a global hit. While the relevant and important subject has garnered rave reviews, audiences have also lauded the one-shot technique.

While the series was originally designed as a standalone limited series, creator Stephen Graham said that there might be a second season. “Possibly… let’s see how the figures are. There’s the possibility of developing another story,” he told Variety.

However, Graham’s wife and co-creator Hannah Walters said that the idea of a sequel is unlikely; the one-shot format can be used to narrate a new story. “But there’s so much mileage in the one-shot and so much mileage in investing into human nature again and looking at something else. But yeah, everything’s looking good … everyone’s happy, shall we say?” she added.

Directed by Philip Barantini and written by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, the crime-drama series is shot in a one-take technique. While Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters, Erin Doherty, Faye Marsay, Christine Tremarco and Mark Stanley delivered impressive performances, it is the 15-year-old
Owen Cooper, whose portrayal of Jamie Miller in this emotionally draining series, who stood out.

Recently Stephen Graham also said that Adolescence ‘holds a mirror up to society’. “I read an article about a young girl who was stabbed to death by a young boy, and then a few months later, on the news there was a young girl who, again, had been brutally stabbed to death by a young boy in a completely different part of the country. If I’m really honest with you, that hurt my heart and I just thought, why? Why does this kind of thing happen? What is this society? Why have we reached this point where this kind of thing is happening? What was the reason?” said Graham while talking to Sky News.
