A total of 39 people were injured during Jallikattu events held on Saturday at Sangamviduthi near Gandarvakkottai and Thenimalai near Ponnamaravathi in Pudukkottai district.
At Sangamviduthi, the event was inaugurated by Minister for Backward Classes Siva V. Meyyanathan. Gandarvakkottai MLA M. Chinnadurai was present. A total of 750 bulls were released with 250 tamers participating. Officials said 30 people were injured during the event, of whom eight were referred to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital.
At Thenimalai, Sub-Collector Deivanayagi flagged off the event where 890 bulls participated and 194 tamers entered the arena. Nine people were injured with one of them referred to Pudukkottai Medical College and General Hospital. The rest were treated at the spot. Both events were conducted under tight security with medical teams on standby to provide first aid and emergency support.
