A high-level State government team, led by A. Surya Kumari, Secretary (Women, Children, Differently Abled and Senior Citizens) is meeting a three-member technical team from Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) on April 7 to discuss ways to expand National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP) implementation.

The meeting is also intended to finalise an action plan for supplying induction stoves and utensils to the large number of Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) in the State towards achieving the goal. The government had begun implementing the NECP in alignment with the Government of India’s ‘Go Electric’ campaign, and the progress it achieved garnered national attention, according to an official release.

It mentioned that Anil Malik, Secretary of the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development, complimented A.P.’s efforts in implementing NECP at a national conference in Udaipur recently. Also, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) Secretary Milind Deore and Deputy Director-General Ashok Kumar appreciated the efforts of the State Designated Agencies, especially of A.P., and the State Energy Conservation Mission in taking the NECP forward.

With the support of GoI, A.P. initiated the adoption of energy-efficient cooking by using induction stoves and compatible utensils in 11,400 AWCs in the first phase and made plans to expand the initiative to all 55,607 AWCs in the State.

The launch of NECP marked a significant milestone in A.P.’s journey towards sustainability and energy efficiency, and it is estimated that by implementing the programme in all the 55,607 AWCs, the Women and Child Welfare Department would achieve annual savings of ₹24 crore and curb approximately 28,327 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, the press release said.
