Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said that the State government has set a goal of setting up 10,000 rooftop units in each Assembly constituency under the PM Surya Ghar scheme.

The district Collectors have to take steps to set up 2 million rooftop solar units in the State this year, he said during the third Collectors’ conference that began at the  Secretariat on Tuesday.

Mr. Naidu said that the MLAs and district Collectors to pay special attention to this matter. For SC/ST beneficiaries setting up 2-kilowatt rooftop units, the Central government will provide ₹60,000, while the State will offer ₹55,000 as subsidies, making the scheme 100% free of cost.

“People can use the electricity generated from the roof-top solar units and supply the surplus power to the grid for which they will be paid ₹2.90 per unit,” Mr. Naidu said.

Currently, SC and ST consumers are getting up to 200 units of electricity free of cost, and the roof-top solar scheme will benefit them further. For BCs, the Central government will provide ₹60,000, while the State government will pay ₹20,000 for a 2-kilowatt roof-top unit, and the beneficiaries can get a loan of ₹35,000 from a bank and repay it in five years.
