Aims of those with religious, caste fanaticism will not be met in Tamil Nadu, says Chief Minister Stalin

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin at a function in Chennai on Friday.

In a message to those “intentionally spreading rumours” against his government, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said on Friday that the aims of those with religious and caste fanaticism would not be met in Tamil Nadu.

“I am not denying the fact that there are some obstacles on our ambitious path. Some people are trying to blow them out of proportion for political ends,” he said, adding that they went on to question whether the State was indeed the land of ‘Periyar’ or of Ambedkar.

Mr. Stalin called out those who were “intentionally spreading rumours” to bring the Dravidian model of governance into disrepute, without understanding an incident that occurred in a location or not intending to understand it completely. “My message to them is: Your religious and caste fanaticism would not succeed in this land of ‘Periyar’ and Ambedkar. You could not achieve your aims as long as this Stalin exists,” he said. His government would “remove the obstacles in society, expose the divisive forces, uphold the ideal of social justice, and create an egalitarian society”.

Speaking at a function, Mr. Stalin said his government was taking steps to empower the Adi Dravidars and the Scheduled Tribes. He recalled the affinity the late Periyar and late former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had for Dr. Ambedkar.

Mr. Stalin launched the distribution of new vehicles under an initiative to make conservancy workers entrepreneurs. He also handed over loans under the Annal Ambedkar Business Champions Scheme. He gave away insurance cards to conservancy workers and aid for building houses to some beneficiaries of the Narikorava community.

Ministers K.N. Nehru, S. Regupathy, Ma. Subramanian, P.K. Sekarbabu, and M. Mathiventhan; Chennai Mayor R. Priya; legislators K. Selvaperunthagai and I. Paranthamen; Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam; and senior officials were also present.
