Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said that all cases registered against Kannada activists will be withdrawn.
He was speaking after unveiling the 25-feet-tall bronze statue of Bhuvaneshwari, the goddess who represents the Karnataka State identity, on the premises of the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on Monday. The statue, which was sculpted at an approximate cost of ₹21.24 crore, is 41-feet-tall including the pedestal and weighs around 31.5 tonne.
Mr. Siddaramaiah urged people to use and promote Kannada at all level, but also love and embrace all languages. “We should develop the culture of speaking to people in Kannada. In most other States, the local languages are supreme.”
He recalled that the State was named “Karnataka” during the tenure of late Devaraja Urs. “Though the golden jubilee celebrations of naming of Karnataka was in 2023, the BJP deliberately dropped the celebrations. However, even though it is an year late, we started the golden jubilee celebrations after we came to power. It was a year-long celebrations. We are committed to Kannada language and culture,” he said.
