An antimicrobial research (AMR) lab has become operational at the Idukki Medical College Hospital. The facility is the first to be set up in the district, officials informed at a medical college development committee meeting presided over by Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine. With the assistance of the lab, doctors can provide antibiotics for patients with proper doses and counts, officials said.

At the meeting, Mr. Augustine directed KITCO to complete the ongoing construction works at the medical college hospital before March 31. A cardiac catheterisation laboratory (cath lab) is also set to be operational at the hospital this year. Mr. Augustine said that the renovated mental health section is ready for operations, and the IP section of the mental health wing is fully operational.

The meeting also decided to schedule the executive meeting of the hospital development committee on the last Saturday of each month. Every three months, the general body meeting will take place. The operation theatre will shut down from February 4 to 20 for the emergency renovation of the blood bank.

Devikulam MLA A. Raja, District Collector V. Vigneshwari, District Panchayat President Rarichen Neeranakunnel, among others, attended the meeting.
