Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister G. Ravi Kumar has said the State government is striving to attract investments of ₹10 lakh crore to the Renewable Energy (RE) sector by implementing the A.P. Integrated Clean Energy Policy-2024 (ICEP), and has expressed confidence that it will become a reality sooner than later.

Releasing New Year diaries and calendars brought out by the AP-Genco and AP-Transco at the Secretariat on January 2, 2025 (Thursday), Mr. Ravi Kumar said steps were taken to pull the power utilities out of the red, and accused the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government of ruining them (AP-Genco, AP-Transco, and DISCOMs) in the last five years.

Employment generation

He stated that the power sector was being reformed to put them back on track under the able guidance of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The government targeted to generate employment for 7.50 lakh people in the power sector, a majority of it in the RE sector.

The Minister further said the AP-Transco was in the process of implementing projects worth ₹15,729 crore. Due priority was given to establishment of the Pumped Storage Hydropower Projects (PSHPs). A 1,350-MW PSHP was being set up at Upper Sileru by the AP-Genco on its own, he said.

Capacity addition

The aggregate capacity addition planned at the PSHPs was 5,000 MW. Five PSHPs were being established by the AP-Genco in partnership with the National Hydropower Corporation Limited, he said.

Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, AP-Genco MD K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu, AP-Transco Director (Grid) A.K.V. Bhaskar, and AP-Genco Directors M. Sujay  (Hydel) and P. Ashok Kumar Reddy (Thermal) were present.
