Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal has said a tourism development project of ₹59 crore centred on Ashtamudi Lake will be implemented in the district as part of the continuous development initiatives.
He was inaugurating an organising committee meeting in connection with the anniversary celebrations of the State government at the C. Kesavan Memorial Town Hall on Wednesday.
“Sreenarayanaguru Open University is being developed with a target of accommodating around one lakh students and land has been acquired for the construction of its headquarters. The solar project in West Kallada is becoming a reality. The district has multiple projects that will contribute significantly to Kerala’s progress, including a court complex, a net manufacturing factory, an oceanarium, an IT park, and port development,” said the Minister.
Mr. Balagopal added that the State was implementing numerous development initiatives by gathering public opinion.
“Programmes will be organised at the local self-government level to effectively bring these to the grassroots level. Events should be conducted in a way that is tangible for people in rural areas,” he said.
It has been decided at the event to conduct meetings at the constituency level by April 30, at the panchayat level by May 5, and at the ward level by May 10.
Minister J. Chinchurani, who presided over the meeting, said a fair being organised as part of the celebrations would showcase the initiatives implemented at the grassroots level.
“This time, a unique presentation will be provided for a better understanding of the projects,” she said.
MLAs M. Naushad and G.S. Jayalal, Mayor Honey Benjamin, district panchayat president P.K. Gopan, District Collector N. Devidas, Deputy Mayor S. Jayan, District Police Chief (Kollam City) Kiran Narayanan, and District Police Chief (Kollam Rural) Sabu Mathew were present.
