Union Christian College, Aluva, has received autonomous status accorded by the University Grants Commission.
The autonomy will help the 100-year-old college design its own academic programmes, besides having the powers to conduct exams and publish results while remaining as an affiliated institution of Mahatma Gandhi University. The status has come in as a recognition of the curricular, non-curricular and research credentials of the college, said K.P. Ouseph, manager, and Mini Alice, Principal, in a communication.
The autonomous status will enable the college to encourage research and step up job opportunities for students. In the fifth cycle of accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, the college had secured 3.53 score and A++ grade, the communication said.
