As the year’s first legislature session begins on Monday with the address of Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, the BJP has decided to up the ante by taking out a march from the Legislators’ Home to the Vidhana Soudha to register its protest against the alleged insult to the Governor by the Congress government. In recent times, the government has been clashing with the Governor over several issues.

While the Budget session is expected to be stormy, the BJP has particularly taken exception to the Congress government treating every issue with the Raj Bhavan as “political”.

The planned walk also indicates the BJP’s resolve to take the fight against the government to the floor of the two Houses. The BJP and the Janata Dal (Secular) have already held a coordination meeting to strategise their move to put the government on the mat.

“Though the Congress has been attacking the Governor and making everything look political, it now wants him to read out the government’s achievements to the joint session of the legislature on Monday. By this, the Congress is showing double standards,” Leader of Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok said on Sunday.

The walk by the BJP leaders will be led by Mr. Ashok and State president B.Y. Vijayendra.

Sources said that the Congress government has not only tried to clip the wings of the Governor when it comes to his powers in State-run universities, but has also been insulting him frequently. “When the Governor accorded sanction for prosecution against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the MUDA site distribution case, the Congress leaders hurled abuses. There were castes/community protests triggered by Congress leaders against the Governor. Several Ministers had spoken bitterly of the Governor. If Bills are sent back for clarification, it too was turned political,” the sources pointed out.

Owing to such attacks, sources said that the Governor did not attend the convocation of some universities anticipating law and order problem. “After doing all this, Governor is being made to read the government’s speech.”
