MDMK principal secretary Durai Vaiko on Friday said if the BJP government at the Centre continues to bring in ‘anti-people policies’, the party will forfeit deposit in all the 234 Assembly seats in the State in 2026 Assembly election.
Addressing journalists in Chennai, Mr. Vaiko said the allocation for Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, in the last two years, was only ₹86,000 crore each. “The allocation should be at least two lakh crore to successfully run the scheme. At a few places, people were getting work only for 30 to 40 days. Their salaries were also not given on time. No steps were taken to provide legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farm produce,” he said.
According to him, students are already burdened because of exams like National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for undergraduate medical examinations. It would be an additional burden for students to impose another language.
He alleged that the BJP was taking out a campaign in northern India against English, calling it an alien language. “Only 20,000 people speak Sanskrit in India. But several crores were sanctioned by the Union government for Sanskrit development. However, the allocation for Tamil and other languages are relatively less,” he said.
