Bodies of three boys found in the Cauvery in Tiruchi

Bodies of three boys who drowned in the Cauvery in Tiruchi on Monday evening were retrieved by the firefighters on Tuesday.

Police sources gave the names of the victims as S. Jahir Hussain, 15, of Alwarthoppu, S. Simbu, 15, of E. Pudur, and S. Vignesh, 15, of Bheema Nagar.

A group of 10 boys, including Jahir Hussain and Simbu – all Class X students of a city school – had gone to the Ayyalamman bathing ghat situated along the Cauvery to take bath on Monday evening.

Jahir Hussain, Simbu, and Vignesh reportedly ventured a little deep into the water and went missing. Acting on an alert, teams of firefighters from Tiruchi, Srirangam, and Perambalur launched an intensive search.  The operation was called off at night on Monday and resumed on Tuesday. The body of Jahir Hussain was found some distance away from the bathing ghat in the morning while that of Simbu was retrieved in the evening near the Cauvery bridge. The body of Vignesh was found beneath the Odathurai bridge.
