Registrations have been opened for the 15th edition of the VKC Calicut Half Marathon, organised by the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) on Kozhikode Beach on February 23.
A press release said that the theme for this year’s marathon, ‘Words in Motion’, celebrates Kozhikode’s rich literary heritage and its recognition as a UNESCO City of Literature. Drawing inspiration from Kozhikode’s storytelling tradition, renowned authors, and literary festivals, the marathon aims to honour the transformative power of words in fostering connection, inspiration, and change.
Speaking at the launch event on Friday (January 17), Prof. Salamah Ansari, convenor of the Calicut Marathon Committee, reflected on the marathon’s legacy in championing civic engagement and raising awareness on social causes.
Prof. Rachappa Shette, chair of Student Affairs, IIMK, highlighted the inclusivity of the marathon’s three categories, namely– 21 km Half Marathon (Competitive), 10 km Mini-Marathon (Competitive), and 3 km Dream Run (Non-Competitive).
In his message, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, director, IIM Kozhikode, said that the Calicut Half Marathon is more than just a race. “It is a celebration of community, culture, and resilience,“ he added.
