Director General of Police Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao on Monday said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has in principle given his nod to sanction the district-level cybercrime police stations in the State.

Speaking to newsmen at a press conference here at the District Police Office, Mr. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao has stated, “We have recently proposed to set up cybercrime police stations in all the districts. Mr. Naidu has in principle approved our proposal and it is being scrutinised. We will strive to create awareness on cybercrime until the dedicated police stations are commissioned.”

“In cybercrime, crime related to investment, digital arrest and masked identities on social network groups are the prime challenges that need to be faced to crack the cases”, said Mr. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao.

He said that the police department was attempting to depend mostly on technology to minimise the dependence on manpower. He said that the recruitment of 6,000 constables is in progress in the State.

On surveillance on the ground, Mr. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao has said, “We have installed 18,000 CC cameras across the State over the past three months. In Visakhapatnam city alone, 5,000 cameras have been installed. However, our target is to install one lakh CC cameras by March 31.” “Special attention has been paid on the religious places by bringing those sites under the CC camera watch to avoid any untoward incidents. It has been decided to ensure that every incident should be recorded somewhere,” said Mr. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao.

On the welfare of the police personnel, the DGP said that he had initiated promotions to the officers which have been pending for a long time. The Chief Minister has recently sanctioned ₹20 crore for the welfare of the police personnel.

Prior to the press conference, Mr. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao reviewed the law and order and other issues with the Kakinada district police. IG G.V.G. Ashok Kumar and Kakinada SP Vikrant Patil were present.
