Tagore Theatre witnessed an inspiring blend of cinema and social good on Saturday, as cinephiles gathered not just to celebrate exceptional films, but also to take part in a blood donation campaign.

Held during the 29th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), the initiative, called Cine Blood, was organised by the Kerala Chalachitra Academy in collaboration with the Kerala Police initiative Pol Blood, Kerala State Blood Transfusion Council, and the blood bank at the Government Women and Children Hospital in Thycaud.

The campaign gained attention for its innovative approach, engaging young people in both cinema and humanitarian efforts.

The second phase of Cine Blood will take place on December 17 at 9 a.m. in Tagore Theatre, organised by the Chalachitra Academy, the Regional Cancer Centre, Kerala State Blood Transfusion Council and Pol Blood.

Prem Kumar, chairperson of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy, inaugurated the campaign, emphasising that the drive demonstrates how social responsibility can be embraced even during a film festival.

“Through this blood donation initiative, we want to show that it is possible to combine our love for cinema with a commitment to social causes,” he said, urging film enthusiasts to contribute. He also noted that this marks the beginning of a new cultural movement.

Actor Santosh Keezhattoor was the first donor at the camp. The inaugural event was attended by Museum Police station sub-inspector Shefin, Chalachitra Academy executive board member Prakash Sridhar, director Balu Kiriyath, producer Babu K., and P.C. Vishnunath, MLA.

Abhilash from Government Hospital, Thycaud, is leading the campaign. Those interested in donating blood can contact 9497904045.
