The Congress will regain its prominence in all the 38 mandals in the next local body elections, said Srikakulam District Congress Committee President Ambati Krishnarao on Monday while interacting with party senior leaders and activists in Indira Vignan Bhavan. During the meeting, he asked the leaders to submit names of potential candidates for Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) seats.
Mr Krishnarao criticised the current ZPTC and MPTC members for failing to address key issues such as the pending Vamsadhara phase-2 project, the poor canal system in Nagavali and Vamsadhara, Uddanam kidney problems, and the drop in support prices for cashew nuts and mangoes in the district.
He said: “The party high command during the recently held nationwide conclave in New Delhi, had instructed all DCC presidents to focus seriously on local issues seriously. PCC President Y.S. Sharmila has developed an action plan to revive the party in Srikakulam and other regions. We must follow the guidelines laid out to strengthen our presence in the district, where until 2014 we had achieved remarkable results.”
Mr. Krishnarao visited various wards and listened to the grievances of the people. He along with party members distributed essential commodities as Ramzan Thofa to needy Muslim families.
