Accusing the Congress government of stealing a masterpiece Anubhava Mantapa painting brushed by eminent artist J.S. Khanderao, a group of senior artists from Kalaburagi district has demanded that the facsimile piece displayed on the walls of the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi be removed immediately.
Senior artists Mohan Sitnoor and Basavaraj Khanderao, addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, said that the original painting of Anubhava Mantapa measuring 7 ft x 9 ft was painted by J.S. Khanderao but a facsimile replica of this masterpiece was unveiled at the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi on Monday.

Refuting the claims that the artwork displayed at the Suvarna Soudha was created by a group of artists from various art institutions under the guidance of B.L. Shankar, Mr. Sitnoor said that the original artist of the Anubhava Mantapa painting was J.S. Khanderao. Ironically, the Congress government has neither taken the consent of Mr. Khanderao nor has it given credit to the original artist of the painting.
Basavaraj Khanderao, who is the son of J.S. Khanderao, said that his father took almost three years to complete the masterpiece Anubhava Mantapa painting.
He urged the government not to hurt the artist’s sentiments and demanded that the facsimile replica of the original work be removed from the Suvarna Soudha.
