Seer of Nandiveri Sansthan Mutt, Kappathagudda and green crusader Shivakumar Swami emphasised the need for conservation of forest and farm areas for better future of the next generation.
He was inaugurating the one-day national seminar on “Climate change: Issues and challenges” organised by KLE Society’s G.K. Law College in Hubballi on Saturday.
The seer said that avoiding deforestation was the key to reducing global warming and called upon all especially the younger generation to play a proactive role in protecting the hill stations and forest areas for better future.
Delivering the keynote address, former Vice-Chancellor and Chair Professor, NSLIU, Bengaluru, M.K. Ramesh laid down the blue print of the seminar and stressed strict implementation of the policies and principles relating environment protection. “All States have to put into action the ideas laid down in various world summits and every one has to assist the State in protecting the environment,” he said.
Environment engineer, researcher, and author from Hyderabad Sagar Dhara spoke on “Impact of climate change on natural resources” and human rights activist from Udupi Ravindranath Shanbhag highlighted on the impact of climate change on human rights.
Former bureaucrat and green activist Yellappa Reddy addressed the students and participants through virtual mode and spoke on environmental law and policy in India. Dean, Faculty of Law, KUD, Vishwanath M. highlighted the international framework on climate change. In all, 17 persons, including several students presented their papers on climate change. Principal Dnyaneshwar P. Chouri presided over the programme.
