Annamayya District Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Vidyasagar Naidu on Saturday issued orders to suspend a constable, Ramanjulu, after a departmental inquiry found him involved in several criminal cases.
Ramanjulu is an accused in five criminal cases, which included two at the Chinnamandem police station in 2017, and an attempted murder case at Ramapuram police station in 2018. The Rayachoti Urban police also registered a criminal case against him in recent months.
During the inquiry, it was found that he reportedly misused his position as a police constable in assisting illegal gambling operations, besides cornering huge amounts from the organisers of betting and cockfights across the district. A report submitted to the SP further found that Ramanjulu had collaborated with the inter-district gambling networks to operate illegal betting hubs.
During the raids conducted by the SP’s special task force, it was also found that some local officials had resorted to taking bribes. The SP reiterated strict enforcement against illegal activities.
